Dela is a payment and shipping platform for peer-to-peer buying and selling. We're not a marketplace and we don't list items. Once you've found a buyer or seller, wherever that happened, Dela handles the money and the delivery so the deal is safe for both sides.

The buyer pays through Dela, the payment is processed securely by Stripe, and the seller is paid once the buyer has the item and is happy with it. The seller can book a courier through Dela, use their own and add the tracking number, or hand the item over in person using a code. Whichever way it goes, the deal is tracked in the app and no one has to risk a dodgy bank transfer.

Dela is for anyone buying or selling secondhand items. It doesn't matter where the deal came from, whether that's Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, a uni buy/sell group, or anywhere else. Selling a phone, buying furniture, trading electronics, it all works the same way.

When a buyer pays for an item, the payment is processed securely by Stripe, a global payments provider. Nothing goes to the seller yet.

Once the item is delivered or handed over, the buyer has 24 hours to check it over and confirm everything's good. The seller is paid as soon as they do. If the buyer doesn't action anything within 24 hours, the deal completes automatically and the seller is paid.

Either way the buyer's money is protected until the item shows up as described, and the seller knows the payment is real and on its way. Both sides are covered.

The buyer's protection fee covers secure payment processing, integrated shipping and tracking, identity verification, and buyer protection on every deal. It's a small price for complete peace of mind.

Sellers always use Dela for free. No listing fees, no commission, no hidden costs.

At Dela, we understand that sometimes things don't go as planned. Because we're not a traditional marketplace, returns are only available under specific circumstances. Once the item has been delivered or handed over, the buyer has 24 hours to accept or reject the item. If the buyer does not action either within 24 hours, the deal is automatically successful.

Returns may be approved if a rejection is actioned within the 24 hour countdown and:

• The item received is significantly different from what was described
• The item is damaged or faulty upon delivery
• The item is lost in transit and cannot be recovered

Returns won't be available for:

• Change of mind
• Fit or sizing issues (unless incorrect to the listing)
• Items that match the listing but don't meet personal expectations

If you believe you're eligible for a return or refund, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery via chat or email, and provide a description of the issue, clear photos (if applicable), and your deal reference.

Refunds can take up to 10 business days to reflect in your bank account. The Dela Support Team will help you through the process.

Only if you want to. If you'd rather not meet a stranger, ship it. Book a courier through Dela's in-app shipping or use your own, and tracking is logged in the app so both sides can follow the delivery.

If meeting up suits you better, use Handover. The buyer gets a unique code in the app and gives it to the seller at the meet up. The seller enters the code to confirm the handover, which starts the buyer's 24 hour check window. The payment stays secured by Stripe the whole time, so no cash changes hands and the seller is only paid once the buyer confirms the item is all good.

Yes, you can choose between Dela Shipping, Own Shipping (organising your own delivery), or Handover if you're meeting in person. Dela Shipping offers a convenient option for standard deliveries with selected carriers integrated directly into the platform, while Own Shipping gives you more flexibility, particularly for larger or bulky items. Dela integrates with AfterShip, allowing you to track shipments from a wide range of supported courier partners by entering a valid tracking number. For the most reliable experience, we recommend using a major courier provider with a standard tracking number, such as Australia Post, DHL, FedEx, or freight carriers like Hunter Express, as some on-demand or same-day courier services may not provide compatible tracking or update within Dela.

Handover is for deals where the buyer and seller meet in person, so there's no postage involved.

The buyer pays through Dela first, exactly as they would for a shipped deal, and the payment is secured by Stripe. When you meet, the buyer shows the seller a unique code from the app. The seller enters that code to confirm the handover has happened.

That starts the buyer's 24 hour window to check the item over. Once the buyer confirms it's all good, or once 24 hours passes with no action, the seller is paid.

Handover deals auto-cancel after 14 days if the handover hasn't been confirmed, compared to 7 days for shipped deals.

Every seller is verified through Stripe Identity before they can transact on Dela. This means real ID checks to reduce fraud and give buyers confidence they're dealing with a verified person.
